Zermatt is a year-round holiday destination, as popular in summer as in winter.
Whilst most of its winter clientele will only know Zermatt as Switzerland’s premier ski resort, it is one of the Alps’ few year-round holiday destinations.
Zermatt doesn’t go into hibernation when the skiers leave
The fascinating high street and heart of this charming village is just as busy in the spring, summer and autumn as it is during the ski season. Any day of the year you can be sure to find visitors photographing each other on the bridge below the church with its view of the iconic Matterhorn. Unlike most Alpine resorts, Zermatt is one that doesn’t go into hibernation when the skiers leave.
Lots of summer activities
Famous as a mountaineering mecca, Zermatt also offers an impressive catalogue of less vertiginous activities for all tastes and degrees of fitness, including mountain biking, hiking, mountaineering, waterskiing and golf on the popular 9 hole course down in Täsch. What’s more, there’s the mouth watering choice of restaurants, both in the village and on the mountain, for which Zermatt is so well known.
Skiing all year round
And for those who can’t get enough during the winter, Zermatt offers 365 day-a-year piste-skiing possibilities towards the Kleine Matterhorn which, accessed by Europe’s highest gondola lift, offers one of the Alps’ best panoramas and a fantastic view of the Matterhorn itself.
