How much does a lift pass cost in Zermatt, compared with Aspen, Park City, Vail and Killington?

In recent years, we have welcomed more and more US guests to Zermatt.  When you look at the cost of lift ticket prices in North America, compared to here in Zermatt, it’s not surprising.

Not only do our American visitors benefit from an iconic view of the Matterhorn, they also save money!

Zermatt v North America – Lift Ticket prices

We compared lift ticket prices for some of North America’s most popular ski resorts with the lift pass prices for Zermatt.

Single Day Lift Ticket

The graph below shows how expensive skiing in the USA is, compared with skiing in Zermatt.

Skiing on the east coast at Killington doesn’t compare too badly – it’s only 76% more expensive than a day in Zermatt!

But if you go further west to California, then a day at Mammoth Mountain will cost you twice as much as a day in Switzerland’s best ski resort.

And if you wanted to spend a day at Vail in Colorado then it would cost you more than THREE TIMES the cost of a day lift pass in Zermatt.

Note – Prices based on purchase of a single day lift ticket on 28 January for skiing on 29 January. The Zermatt pass does not cover skiing in Cervinia, Italy, although this is available for a small upgrade.

6-Day Lift Ticket

Looking at the costs of a 6-day lift ticket, the price differential means that skiing in North America is even more expensive.

The best value comparison is for Mammoth Mountain, which is only 91% more expensive than Zermatt. The bad news though is that your USD795 at Mammoth will only buy you a 5-day lift pass!

Resorts like Whistler and Aspen charge three times as much for a 6-day lift pass and even more shocking…prepare yourself…it will cost you FOUR TIMES as much to buy an equivalent pass for Park City or Vail.

Note: Prices based on purchase on 28 January for skiing starting on 29 January

And if you have children, you’ll save even more in Zermatt

On top of the different in absolute prices, there are additional savings for families travelling together.

Zermatt offers a free ski pass for kids under the age of 9 years old, and a 50% discount for children younger than 16. Families of older teens up to the age of 20 can also save 15% on their passes.

And if you happen to visit on a Saturday, then even better, the Zermatt ski pass is free for children younger than 16 years of age.
