If you’re looking for a Michelin Star restaurant in Zermatt, then there’s never been a better time to come as the resort now has five Michelin stars.
The Michelin Guide to Switzerland for 2019 confirmed Zermatt as the leading Swiss ski resort for gourmet cuisine as two addition Michelin stars were added to the existing three.
Michelin guides since 1900
The Michelin Guide was introduced by the tyre manufacturing company in 1900 in the hope that drivers would put in more miles, wear down their tyres and buy more…from Michelin.
These days the company is probably better known for their restaurant reviews than tyres themselves.

Two new Michelin Star Restaurants in Zermatt
The Michelin star accolade was awarded for the first time to two restaurants in Zermatt – The Omnia and the Alpine Gourmet Prato Borni in the Hotel Zermatterhof.
“Stylish, vivid cuisine”
The Michelin reviewers described the Omnia:
“This is a place rich in finesse and precision, offering food of exceptional quality. The incredibly chic, geometric interior, with its large tables and beautiful granite surfaces, is reflection of its stylish, vivid cuisine.”
“You feel a real connection to the region”
The Prato Borni originality and local inspirations contributed to their first star:
“You feel a real connection to the region here, with a clear focus on local ingredients. Fresh ideas, and the dishes themselves, are presented without any unnecessary flourishes. The highly elegant, stylish interior reflects the luxury of the establishment itself.”
Michelin stars retained
In addition to the new Michelin star restaurants in Zermatt, the After Seven in the Hotel Backstage Vernissage and the Ristorante Capri in the Hotel Mont Cervin Palace retained their existing stars.
The After Seven is one of just twenty two-star Michelin-rated restaurants in Switzerland.

L’Assiette Michelin or Michelin Plate
Since 2018, Michelin has also been awarding ‘L’Assiette Michelin’ or Michelin Plate.
These restaurants offer ‘quality food’ and according to Michelin many of these restaurants start off by entering the guide with a ‘Plate’ and then move up to a star in following years.

There are seven restaurants in Zermatt with the Michelin Plate rating (many of which also feature on our list of the best mountain restaurants in Zermatt)
