“Can you ski to the door in Zermatt?” or “Is it possible to ski in ski out in Zermatt?” are two questions we are often asked at Matterhorn Chalets.

The good news is that you can ski to the door of our luxury chalets in Zermatt, Chalet Binna (sleeps 8-9) and Chalet Banja (sleeps 6-8). From there to our Chalet Ulysse (sleeps 8-12) is a minute’s further walk.

All three chalets are located in Winkelmatten – ‘the Beverley Hills of Zermatt’. This video shows how you can ski to the door of these Zermatt chalets:

From Furi to Winkelmatten

The route follows the path down from just above the Furi lift station, past the Alm Restaurant and down into Winkelmatten.

Watch out for people tobogganing along the way, pedestrians and possible electric taxis. Mostly though, it will just be you skiing gently through the quiet forest.

“Is it possible to ski in ski out in Zermatt?”

You can see from the video above that you can ‘ski in’ to the chalets. Skiing out is another issue. The roads in Winkelmatten are often covered in snow and theoretically it is possible to ski down the road to the Matterhorn Express lift.

However, we do not recommend or advise this. This is a busy and narrow road and not suitable for skiing on.

There is a regular bus stop, with stops immediately outside Chalet Ulysse and another only 50m from Chalets Banja and Binna. There is a published timetable and the buses run with Swiss efficiency so are always bang on time. You can literally leave the chalet 1-2 minutes before the bus is due to stop and walk straight on to it.
